We offer thyme oil that is very much pure and unadulterated. Trusted by the ancient learning of the Greeks, the Egyptians and the Romans, the thyme oil is derived from an evergreen perennial shrub that is famous the world over for its transcending fragrance. The Greeks used it as incense in their temples whereas the Egyptians used it in their embalming process. Thyme is an evergreen perennial shrub that grows up to 45 cm (18 inches) in height. It has a woody root system with a multi-branched stem, small elliptical greenish-gray leaves and pale purple or white flowers. Thyme is derived from the Greek word thymos that means 'perfume'. It was used in herbal medicines by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans, as incense in Greek temples, and in embalming by the Egyptians. During the Middle Ages it was given to jousting knights for courage, and a sprig of thyme was later carried into courtrooms to ward off diseases (as well as to freshen the air).

Aromatic Summary / Strength of Aroma:
  • A top note with a strong aroma, Red Thyme has a woody, medicinal scent described as both sharp and warming.

Cautions:
  • Red Thyme contains a high amount of toxic phenols (carvacrol and thymol) that can irritate mucus membranes, and must be diluted well before use. Avoid use if under the care of a physician.

Storage:
  • It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Note:
  • This oil may form crystals during transit or storage. Gentle warming in a hot water bath and stirring may be required.

AppearanceA Thin, Colorless to Pale Yellow Liquid

The Peppermint Therapy Oil offered by us is obtained from the several species of the mentha arvensis perennial herb. Extracted from fresh peppermint plant that has leaves with serrated edges and purple spiked flowers, we offer peppermint oil that retains the natural essence of the plant. The Japanese Peppermint is well known for its high menthol content.

Aromatic Summary / Strength of Aroma:
  • A top note with a strong aroma, Peppermint has a sharp, penetrating scent based on its high menthol content. The minty sweetness of the vapor makes it one of the most popular Essential Oils.

Blends With:
  • Basil, Bergamot, Cajeput, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Marjoram, Niaouli, Pine, Rosemary, Spearmint and Thyme.

Product Abstract:
  • Mentha piperita, also known as 'candy mint', was once thought to be a species, but has been found to be a perennial hybrid that only proliferates by spreading its rhizomes underground. A very hearty fast-growing herb, it can grow anywhere. It has reddish veins and lightly fuzzy leaves, and its interesting chromosome count can vary between 66 and 120 chromosomes. Peppermint's name has its roots in Greek mythology. Hades, god of the dead, pursued the beautiful nymph, Minthe. Hades' wife, Persephone, became jealous and turned Minthe into a small and insignificant plant on which to be trampled. Pluto could not undo the transformation, but ensured that Minthe would always be loved for her fragrant aroma. Peppermint is used as a fragrancing agent in soaps, candles and toiletries.

Cautions:
  • Dilute very well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage:
  • It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Note:
  • Because of the very high menthol content of this oil, it may crystalize. If so, we would recommend placing the bottle in a very hot water bath, and changing the water frequently until it is back to its liquid state, then gently agitate before use.
